First Video

Tomorrow we shoot our first video specifically for the teaching series we are in at Beachside called Desperate Sex Lives.  It’s going to be a short to the point video about defining boundaries in dating relationships.  Almost all people have asked the question how far is too far?  So we are shooting this video one the top of a office building asking the question if you define a line, say the edge of the roof, how close do you get to it?  I’m not going to spoil the video, so watch for a link to it early next week along with a link to the message.

Does anyone work with Media Shout 3 for Windows and edit video on a Mac?  What program(s) do you use and what are the settings that you use for exporting it?

I know the easy answer is burning a dvd, my laptop doesn’t currently have a dvd-rw but I found an internal one for $160 and I’m going to work on getting it.

We used a great intro clip from the Skit Guys leading into our message about temptation.  It would have been great the way it came but it was made for youth ministry settings.  We took the giggling part out to make it a little more adult friendly.  I edited it in iMovie HD since it was just an easy cut job but couldn’t get my export to play in Media Shout 3 at all.  It might be the computer we are using (I’m working on that problem also).

Mobile Office

Not just getting situated into a new job its also mobile job. So I have devised a folder system breaking up my responsibilities into three folders (for now). One for Chrildren’s Ministry, one for design work and one for general stuff. The best part is what’s on the folders.

Putting together the whole package for Sunday Morning

With Sunday Morning being the big push for a new church plant we focus 3 or so days a week brain storming and talking through ideas video, audio, props and other elements for the one service. I want to start a discussion in where do you start when brain storming for your main pushes whether they are Sunday morning or a mid week youth service? Do you go looking at certain resources, websites, other places?

Real church

I just lost the original post so I hope this is as clear as the other one was.

Sometimes even churches that preach the church is the body’s of the people attending we sometimes forget or lose focus. I know that I have been guilty of that. When we remember that the church is its body and not some building certain things should happen as it did for us yesterday. I have always thought that testimonies were kind of hokie, and maybe a better word would sharing but yesterday we were reminded that the rain falls on the just and the unjust. Usually Robbie is aware of something going on in someone’s life or will ask if anyone has something going on that they want to share, but this weekend was his turn. Robbie’s wife had a miscarriage last week. Things happen to Christian people too. There is pain that goes along with the good and as a body we need to share those. How does true community happen if we are not sharing what is going on in the body.

On a lighter note. We started a new series this week called Desperate Sex Lives. The audio will be available today on Beachside’s website and also on iTunes. But Robbie started out talking about the 4 love words in the Greek language. 3 are in the New Testament and one isn’t. Philo is a the greek word that means “brotherly love or love for a friend”, where Philadelphia the city of brotherly love comes from. To help people remember that kind of love we used the theme song to the show “Friends”. For Storge, the word for love for our family, we used “We are family”, you know the words so sing along, “we are family, I got all my sisters with me”. For Eros, the word not used in the New Testament, which means, got to have or conquering kind of love, a cheap substitute for real love we used, Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s get it on”. This maybe the first time this song has ever been played in a church service. And for Agape, real love, the love God has for us and the love we should be displaying to others, the 1 Corinthians 13 love. For this kind of love Robbie lead into our singing by explaining that there isn’t a song for this kinda love but we can show through our song the song we sing to God as we praise him in worship.

Being a part of a Church Plant- Part 1

Being my first week on staff for a 6 month old church plant is great. I’m loving it! It is kind of funny to be living out what I have been reading for the better part of a year on other church planter’s blogs about office space and issues that arise daily that you have to deal with. Like Gary Lamb’s office troubles over the last year, there are three of us in one office inside a insurance office that is owned my a guy that is apart of Beachside. There are good and bad parts. Its fun to joke around and not have to go to someone’s office to bounce ideas off of them. In my last ministry my first office was all in the farthest away part of our building total away from the rest of the staff and printer and copier. And being a part of an established church with their own facility you don’t have to deal with certain things, but meeting in an elementry school you have to think different about how you word or the things that you do and publicize. This weekend we are starting a series call Desperate Sex Lives and sent out some 5,000 postcards with the title in big letters on the front and the name and address of the elementry school on the back for directions to our gathering. Well alot of people aren’t happen with the postcard and have call the main campus of Tomoka Christian Churhc and the school to let their unhappiness be know and we are having to do damage control. Poor Robbie was on the phone most of the morning with different people and is meeting with the principle today to let them know we want to take all the heat of them and let them know we have put disclaimers on the website that neither the school or the school board have anything to do with our message content. You learn as you go. It’s definatly a message series that needs to be heard so we aren’t backing down but we will think more about the ramifications of messge series and publicity while we are meeting in the school (hopefully only through June or July).

God is Great!

In His timing God made things happen that couldn’t be any better. After months of praying and sending resumes and nothing coming of it God opened a door that I was hoping would happen but in like a year. Without a resume or interview with a Senior Minister and Elders I got offered a position doing media and children’s ministry for the church plant that we have been attending since we moved back to Florida, Tomoka Beachside. Robbie called me yesterday and asked me to come by their office this morning, so I showed up this morning and came into their office and we sat down and just started talking about this weekend’s service and what we could do with some of the other details and then Robbie siad that they couldn’t do it just the two of them (Robbie and Drew the Lead Worshiper) and asked if I wanted a job. Its been just an amazing combination of events leading to this and I’m grateful to God for the testing of my faith and seeing if we would really rely on Him and He made the outcome better than I ever could have thought.

Demolition…

Who ever said that demolition is great knew what they were talking about. A bunch of people from Tomoka Beachside, bathrooms, landscaping. It was great to see people who have caught the vision of this church plant and doing what they can to help. They think we will be in the building around June which is cool, only 6 more months of setup and tear down. They have some cool plans for the building to be used all week, every week. We are going to be one of the only churches in the states that have a bar. Demolition ROCKS!
